On Droochsloot and his works, Walter Bernt writes, “Dutch painter of village scenes, whose early works remind one of those of Esaias van de Velde. They normally depict a broad street, lined with houses, leading off into the distance. The village event depicted (kermesse) with its many, rather coarse peasant figures often has an iconographical intent: Samaritans, feeding the poor...”.
